Vaccinations are an important part of keeping your pet protected, but they are only one part of overall care.
At VETaround, vaccinations are done as part of a full consultation. Your pet is assessed properly before anything is given, and the plan is adjusted based on age, health, and risk.
All vaccinations are administered in your home, reducing stress and providing a calmer, more controlled experience.
A vaccination appointment begins with a thorough discussion and a physical examination.
This ensures your pet is well enough to be vaccinated and helps identify any underlying issues that may need attention first.
Because the consult happens at home, your pet is more relaxed. This makes handling easier and allows for a more accurate assessment before proceeding.
Where needed, an additional team member assists during the consult so your pet can be handled safely without you needing to restrain them.
Puppies are vaccinated every 3 to 4 weeks from around 6 to 8 weeks of age until at least 12 to 16 weeks. A booster is given at one year, followed by ongoing boosters based on individual risk, often every three years.
Additional vaccines, such as those for kennel cough, may be recommended based on lifestyle and exposure.
Leptospirosis vaccination may also be discussed where relevant, based on current risk factors and your dog’s environment.
Core dog vaccines protect against parvovirus, distemper, and hepatitis. These diseases are uncommon in well-vaccinated dogs, but can be serious, especially in puppies, older dogs, or dogs with weaker immune systems.
Parvovirus mainly affects the gut and can cause severe vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration. Distemper can affect the respiratory, digestive and nervous systems. Hepatitis affects the liver and can cause severe illness.
Non-core vaccines, such as kennel cough and leptospirosis, are recommended based on your dog’s lifestyle, environment and exposure risk.

Kittens follow a similar schedule to puppies, with vaccinations every three to four weeks from six to eight weeks of age until at least 16 weeks. Booster timing is then based on risk, with many adult cats moving to longer intervals.
Non-core vaccines may be considered for cats at higher risk, such as those that go outdoors or live with infected animals.
Core cat vaccines protect against the herpes virus, calicivirus and feline parvovirus. These viruses can cause serious illness, especially in kittens, older cats, or cats exposed to other cats.
Herpesvirus and calicivirus are common causes of cat flu symptoms, including sneezing, eye discharge, and mouth ulcers. Feline parvovirus can cause severe gastrointestinal disease and can be fatal.
Other vaccines, such as FIV or FeLV, may be considered for cats with a higher exposure risk, particularly outdoor cats or those living with infected animals.
Vaccination is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
The plan depends on your pet’s age, lifestyle, health status, and level of exposure to other animals.
Some pets require more frequent protection, while others can safely move to longer intervals. These decisions are made during the consult, based on a full assessment rather than a fixed schedule.
In-home care forms the foundation of how we treat and manage your pet’s health. Most conditions can be assessed, treated, and monitored in a familiar environment where pets are calmer and easier to handle. Available to residents of Sydney’s inner city, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs and the Lower North Shore.
First visit from Ari and Ellie and it went beyond all expectations. They were so genuinely interested in my two cats. Of course I couldn’t stop talking about them but they clearly were not bored. Did excellent health checks and vaccinations – was an absolute pleasure and I would totally recommend them to anybody. So fabulous having no stress of lugging…
Elle’s exceptionally professional, warm, and helpful phone manner, together with Dr Ari’s prompt arrival, gentle approach with Hudson, and clear, thorough medical explanations and recommendations, immediately put my mind at ease. The high level of care and professionalism demonstrated confirmed that contacting VETaround was the right decision.
Ari is the best vet ever. His home visits are incredible. Such a great service to not have to put your beloved pets in the stressful situation of a car. Or around sick pets in a waiting area. My cats LOVE HIM. Ollie my male cat NEVER comes out of hiding when visitors come over. With Ari, he not only came out, let him weigh him, have his check up done…
I was very pleased with the ladies from VETaround Mobile vet. Professional, polite and very knowledgeable. Certainly eased my mind about my cat 🐈 would recommend them to anyone needing good veterinary care for their pet. We all know just how important our four legged friends are!
Yes, vaccinations can be given during a home consultation after a full examination. The vet checks your pet’s health first to ensure it is appropriate to proceed. This reduces the risk of vaccinating an unwell animal.
Initial puppy vaccinations are given every three to four weeks until at least 12 to 16 weeks of age. After that, a booster is given at one year, with ongoing boosters based on risk. Many adult dogs move to longer intervals rather than yearly vaccines.
Not always. After the initial kitten series and first booster, some cats can move to longer intervals depending on their risk. Indoor cats with low exposure may not need annual vaccination, but still require regular health checks.
Vaccinations may be delayed if your pet is not well enough. A full consultation helps identify any issues before proceeding. This ensures vaccines are only given when appropriate.
These are not always required for every dog. They are recommended based on exposure risk, such as contact with other dogs or environmental factors. The decision is made during the consultation rather than applied universally.
VETaround is designed for pets that are difficult to manage in a clinic, and for owners who want a higher standard of care delivered properly at home. Every visit is carried out by a vet and nurse team, so you’re not left trying to hold your pet while decisions are being made.
