Euthanasia is considered when a pet’s quality of life has declined to a point where comfort can no longer be maintained. It is a difficult decision, but the focus is on preventing ongoing pain and distress.
At VETaround, euthanasia is carried out in your home so your pet can remain in a familiar and controlled environment.
For many pets, particularly those that are older or unwell, travel can be stressful or physically difficult. Being at home allows your pet to stay where they feel most comfortable. It also allows you to be present without the pressure of a clinical setting. This environment supports a calmer and more controlled process.
The process is structured and carried out in stages.
First, your pet is given a small sedative injection. This allows them to relax fully. It usually takes between five and 15 minutes to take effect.
Once your pet is settled, a small cannula is placed into a vein. When you are ready, an overdose of anaesthetic is administered through this line. Your pet is not aware of this stage. You can stay with them throughout.
After the procedure, you are given as much time as you need.
Euthanasia is carried out with a focus on calm, controlled handling. Where needed, an additional team member assists so your pet can be positioned and supported without distress. This allows the process to be carried out safely and without urgency.
You are not required to manage or restrain your pet at any point.

After your pet has passed, arrangements can be made according to your preferences. We can organise cremation and the return of ashes if requested. Alternatively, you may choose to make your own arrangements. Guidance is provided to help you understand your options.
Deciding when the time is right can be difficult. This is usually based on a clear decline in quality of life, including pain, reduced mobility, or an inability to carry out normal daily behaviours.
At VETaround, we understand that this decision is not one to be taken lightly. We recommend scheduling a consultation so we can assess your pet’s condition and guide this decision in a practical, structured way.
In-home care forms the foundation of how we treat and manage your pet’s health. Most conditions can be assessed, treated, and monitored in a familiar environment where pets are calmer and easier to handle. Available to residents of Sydney’s inner city, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs and the Lower North Shore.
First visit from Ari and Ellie and it went beyond all expectations. They were so genuinely interested in my two cats. Of course I couldn’t stop talking about them but they clearly were not bored. Did excellent health checks and vaccinations – was an absolute pleasure and I would totally recommend them to anybody. So fabulous having no stress of lugging…
Elle’s exceptionally professional, warm, and helpful phone manner, together with Dr Ari’s prompt arrival, gentle approach with Hudson, and clear, thorough medical explanations and recommendations, immediately put my mind at ease. The high level of care and professionalism demonstrated confirmed that contacting VETaround was the right decision.
Ari is the best vet ever. His home visits are incredible. Such a great service to not have to put your beloved pets in the stressful situation of a car. Or around sick pets in a waiting area. My cats LOVE HIM. Ollie my male cat NEVER comes out of hiding when visitors come over. With Ari, he not only came out, let him weigh him, have his check up done…
I was very pleased with the ladies from VETaround Mobile vet. Professional, polite and very knowledgeable. Certainly eased my mind about my cat 🐈 would recommend them to anyone needing good veterinary care for their pet. We all know just how important our four legged friends are!
This is usually based on a decline in quality of life. Signs may include ongoing pain, reduced mobility, loss of appetite, or withdrawal from normal behaviour. A structured assessment in a comfortable environment can help clarify the situation.
No. The process begins with sedation, which allows your pet to fully relax in a calm, familiar environment. Being at home often helps reduce stress and anxiety during this stage.
Once your pet is settled and unaware, the final injection is given peacefully and without distress.
Yes, you can keep your pet with you throughout the entire process. Many owners choose to sit with or hold their pet while the sedation takes effect. You are not rushed at any stage. At VETaround we also ensure that you do not need to restrain your pet during any part of the process.
You are given time with your pet after the procedure. We can arrange cremation and return of ashes, or you can choose your own arrangements. Guidance is provided based on your preference.
For many pets, even those without anxious dispositions, yes. Remaining at home avoids the stress of travel, unfamiliar smells, and a clinic environment, which can be particularly difficult for older, unwell, or anxious animals.
Being in familiar surroundings often allows pets to stay calmer and more settled, helping make the process more peaceful and controlled for everyone involved.
VETaround is designed for pets that are difficult to manage in a clinic, and for owners who want a higher standard of care delivered properly at home. Every visit is carried out by a vet and nurse team, so you’re not left trying to hold your pet while decisions are being made.
